ABOUT | Kate Fierek - Wedding Photographer

Welcome to my Kate Fierek Wedding Photography website. If you're visting as an engaged couple then let me start by saying congratulations! Such exciting times ahead! :)

Do feel free to browse through my website. Hopefully most of the information you require can be found on here, but you're more than welcome to get in touch if you have any questions ... or you'd just like a chat. I'm normally very busy capturing and editing weddings, so don't often have as much time as I'd like to update the portfolio section of this website. You'll find a selection of my work from previous years there, but if you would like to view images from the most recent wedding season then have a peep at my social media pages which I try to post on regularly:

So, A little about me .... I've been a passionate photographer for over three decades now and started professionally as a photo journalist several years ago. Alongside this I studied full-time as a mature student for a BA Honours degree in Digital Art & Technology. In 2010, whilst nearing the end of my studies, I made the move into wedding photography; a decision that I've been thankful for every day since then as I truly love every minute of it!

After the completion of my degree - shortly before my 30th birthday - I began work as a Graphic Designer/Videographer for HMS Raleigh for eighteen months, and gradually began to build Kate Fierek Photography during this time. Now, six years on, and with a well-established business, I'm working in the field full time .... In fact often fifty+ hour weeks, but I wouldn't change a thing! I adore the wedding industry, and love concentrating all of my efforts on photography. To get to know couples and become a part of their special day is such a joy, and to know that I'm giving people something that can be passed down through the generations is something that I take great pride in.

I feel blessed to be able to provide a service that can make people so happy.

I come from a family of artists and have a strong creative eye. I am somewhat of a perfectionist, and am entirely dedicated to helping couples capture their wedding day in a way that can be treasured forever. I love to photograph the natural and spontaneous moments from a big day so that couples are left with a lovely 'story in pictures' to reflect back on in years to come. I will also get those all-important organised group shots (which we all love to give as post-wedding gifts). I believe that, although important, wedding photographers shouldn't rule a wedding day. I have an unobtrusive style, and am happy to work in the background when required.

One of my favourite parts of the wedding day is going for a stroll with couples after the ceremony to capture the beautiful newlywed shots. I like to combine my natural style with a little gentle posing where needed for this part of the day. This is often quite laid back as I find that happy relaxed couples make for far better photographs. I am happy to guide couples as little or as much as they require for this section of the day, and am also more than happy to work with any creative ideas you may have yourselves if asked.

I know how very important wedding photographs are, so spend a very long time hand-editing each individual image. I offer a range of professional products such as prints, high-end photo books, and thank-you cards should you want them after the big day, but am also more than happy to work alongside you (with no charge of course!) to advise on how to make your own. A lot of couples opt for my popular digital package as they quite enjoy the process of making photo books together as a couple.

There are a range of packages available through the 'prices' section of this website, but I do understand that every wedding is different so would be more than happy to work with you to create a tailor-made package if required.

Please feel free to visit my wedding photography portfolio page to have a look at some of my work to date.

You can also visit the Kate Fierek Wedding Photographer Facebook page to view some of my more recent work. Click the 'like' button at the top of the page if you want to receive updates, news, wedding inspiration, and images straight to your news feed.

If you would like any more information please feel free to call me on 07810 515047, message me through my photography Facebook page or use the message form on the Kate Fierek Wedding Photographer contact page.

South West Wedding Awards 2017 Finalist

Wedding photographer - Devon and Cornwall

I am honoured and delighted to announce that I've progressed through to the finals in the 2017 South West Wedding Awards. Thank you so much to my lovely couples that took the time to share kind words and reviews.

I attended an evening at Crownhill Fort hosted by Orange Chilli last week and met lots of fantastic fellow wedding industry professionals. There were so many talented people in one room! We're very lucky to live in the part of the world that we do :) The awards celebrate lots of different wedding sectors - including florists, wedding entertainers, and venues to name but a few. It's a great way to forge links and promote talent and hard work in the Westcountry.

Roll on the black tie Gala Finals in January! Wish me luck! :)

Hayley & Dave's wedding photography

Wedding photographer - Devon and Cornwall

I worked as the second wedding photographer on Hayley & Dave's big day last week. The pre-wedding photos were taken at the bride's parent's house in Gunnislake before we headed down to Calstock Church for the wedding. Although it wasn't particularly sunny, it did stay dry and warm, so after a very moving ceremony we were able to get some lovely shots outside of the church.

The guests headed over to Tavistock - where the reception was being held at the Bedford Hotel - and myself, Daniel Kempe, and the happy couple popped down to Calstock Quay for some beautiful river-side wedding photography.

We then joined the rest of the wedding party - who were happily sipping champagne and listening to live music in the walled gardens of the Bedford. We took the group shots here in the grounds before heading inside for the post-wedding celebrations - highlights of which had to be the best man's speech and the fabulous Volkswagon Camper Van his 'n' hers wedding cakes which had been made by the incredibly talented sister of the groom.

All in all it was a fabulous day with a geat atmosphere and lots of smiley faces!

Claire & Addie's Wedding

I had the pleasure of doing Claire and Addie's wedding photography at Browns Hotel in Tavistock last week. The whole wedding shebang took place at the venue, with the ceremony being held in the Conservatory - a stunning light-filled room with a glass roof which bridges the two buildings that make up the property.

The post-ceremony wedding photography was a joy to be a part of. Although in a central town location, Browns houses numerous striking locations which are ideal for dramatic and elegant wedding photographs: The conservatory itself, the courtyard, the secret garden, and the stone stairwell ... to name but a few. I love using natural light to achieve impactful photographs, and the numerous interesting windows throughout the hotel were a delight to utilise.

After celebratory drinks and the newlywed & group shots - which were pleasantly warm and dry considering the winter wedding date - the couple and guests moved through to the sumptuously decorated restaurant to enjoy a three course meal. The festive and cosy room, with it's log piles, candles, and elegant wedding decorations made for a friendly, atmospheric wedding breakfast setting.

The evening consisted of sparkler shots in the courtyard {Visit my portfolio to have a peep at the outcome}, music and lively entertainment from the charasmatic Nick Coles 'Man on Fire', and of course lots of food, drink, and merriment. Claire and Addie had also set up an area for guest photographs. They bought along a box of props, and hung a frame from the ceiling of the conservatory for people to pose behind. What a great idea! They've certainly got some wedding photos to remember :-)

FAQs ~ Wedding Photographer

wedding phographers in Cornwall

FAQs | Kate Fierek - Wedding Photographer

Will the images be high-resolution?

Yes, your disc will contain a folder of high-resolution images which will be perfect for making prints, canvasses and items such as photos books from. There will also be a second folder containing a set of identical lower-resolution images which will have been optimised for social media sites such as Facebook.

Can I pay extra to have a luxury wedding photo book?

All of the photo books offered are of a very high quality, and you will no doubt be delighted with the outcome. However, if you would like an extra extra special book then just let me know, and we'll work out a tailored package to meet your needs. I work with Queensberry - who are widely considered to be one of the best photography album makers in the world. Prices range from £300 - £2000 per album.

Do you have back-up equipment?

Yes, I have back–up memory cards, a back-up camera, and back-up lenses! I've never had to use them yet, but it's better to be safe than sorry when it comes to capturing those all-important never-to-be-repeated moments. Wedding photographs will be backed up to a portable storage device throughout the day where possible, and will be triple saved as soon as I return back to the studio on the evening of your wedding.

Do you do engagement shoots and 'trash the dress'?

I usually concentrate solely on the wedding day, but am more than happy to cater for any of my couples' additional wants and needs. Feel free to get in touch if you'd like to arrange any additional shoots.

How far do you travel?

I'm based on the Cornwall – Devon border, so am well positioned to cover weddings in both counties. I am more than happy to travel further afield if required. If the wedding venue is more than 100 miles away I charge thirty pence per mile, and if it's more than two and a half hours away I will require accommodation the night before to ensure that I don't run into traffic problems on the day.

Can I make prints from the images provided on the Disc?

Yes, the images on the disc will not be watermarked, and you will not be charged extra for a full free license. This means that you will be able to make as many prints, copies and wedding photography related products as you like.

You are also free to upload the images to Facebook and other social media sites.

The copyright always remains with the photographer, so the only things you're not allowed to do is alter the images or reproduce the images for resale.

What preparations do you do before the wedding day?

I always like to meet with couples in advance of the big day. With long-term advance bookings I often meet shortly after the initial contact, and then again a little closer to the wedding day. I find that it's good to put faces to names and to get to know each other before the wedding :) It's also important to discuss elements such as running times, shoot locations, and special requirements. Ideally this would take place at the venue where possible, but I'm happy to come to you if that's easier.

If it's not possible to meet face to face (lots of my couples travel down to the South West for their big day, but live further afield) then it's absolutely fine to catch up over the phone or by email.

How do we book you?

I understand that booking a wedding photographer is an important decision, and am more than happy to have an informal no-obligation chat to run through any questions you may have.

Providing I'm available on the date required, a deposit of just £50 will secure your booking. You can get in touch via any of the methods on the katefierekphotography.co.uk contact page.

The full balance will be due two weeks before the wedding. This can be paid in full, or in instalments leading up to the payment date.

I set aside the whole day when a couple pays the deposit, so if you change your mind and want more or less coverage nearer the time then that's fine ... Just keep me in the loop.

How long have you been a wedding photographer?

I've been working as a photographer for several years now, and am now in my sixth year of photographing weddings. I've photographed over 100 weddings during this time – with great success – and have developed a real passion for the field.

I also gained a 4-year BA (Hons) degree in Digital Art & Technology as a mature student, and developed a sound technical understanding throughout my studies.

How long will we have to wait for the wedding photographs?

Photographing a wedding is just one part of the service I provide. Once captured, each image is individaully hand edited, which is a creative & lengthy process that can't be rushed. Post–production can take between 2–6 weeks depending on what time of year your wedding is. I try to provide couples with at least a handful of shots during the week after the wedding .... because if it were me I wouldn't be patient enough to wait to see the finished results! Obviously in busy wedding season things can take a little longer, but I prefer not to rush things when it get busy as I would hate for the quality to be impaired just because I'm trying to push things through. I will always dedicate the required amount of time to doing things right ... After all, people will be looking at these photographs for a very very long time! :)

How many photos do you take?

I normally take well in excess of 1000 wedding photographs on the day. These will be whittled down during the editing process, and your disk will usually contain approximately 300 - 500 polished images (around 150-250 for a half day). Photo books normally contain around 60-150 photographs ... all hand chosen by you of course. If you'd like a bigger or smaller book then that is entirely up to you ... the above is just a guide.

Do you use a flash in the church?

No. I've never met a vicar who's happy for me to use a flash, and I absolutely understand why. My camera and lenses are designed to cope in low light situations, so intrusion during the ceremony itself will be at a minimum. I prefer to utilise natural light as much as possible in all of my photographs.

What type of wedding photographs do you take?

I favour the natural spontaneous shots, but understand that most weddings require formal group shots ... They're great to give out as presents to relatives after a wedding! These group shots are normally planned in advance so as to ensure smooth running, and will generally take around 30 minutes after the ceremony depending on how many groups there are. I also take the bride and groom away for romantic couple shots, and am happy to guide people with positioning if required here.

As well as the more 'traditional' images, I pride myself on capturing photographs that are a little more bespoke .... and are personal to you and your big day.

The images on the disc will be a combination of colour and black & white, and will portray the story of your wedding day.

I am more than happy to cater for special requirements – either during the shooting process itself or in post–production.

I don't like having my photo taken! Will this be a problem?

Not at all. I understand that a lot people are not comfortable in front of the lens (I'm one of those people myself!). I will strive to make you feel at ease, and we will work out a strategy together well in advance of your wedding day. I have a very unobtrusive style of capturing photographs, and if you're worried about posed photos we can plan to concentrate on the more natural shots if preferred.

Do you use high quality equipment?

Yes, I use a professional Nikon D700 body with a range of professional Nikon lenses. All post–production software is state–of–the–art, and includes Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Lightroom – which is my preferred editing tool.

What digital manipulation do you use?

I aim to leave photographs as 'true' as possible, and capture the beauty of the image through the shooting process itself – through lens choice, lighting, positioning, and composition. Subtle adjustments – such as cropping, tweaking levels, and 'tidying up' will be made to ensure that all photographs are polished and optimised. A portion of images will also be edited to black and white. Photograph blips – such as blinks – can be rectified in Photoshop. Subtle airbrushing can also be undertaken if required, although I don't like to alter peoples' appearance too much. Some photographs may be enhanced further using artistic effects. This can be discussed during our pre–wedding consultation.

Do you have any advice ahead of the big day?

I've written a couple of blog entries which you can visit by clicking the links below. The advice given doesn't have to be followed if it doesn't suit you, but I've tried to include lots of useful hints and tips that I've picked up over the years.

My Tips for Top Wedding Photography

Planning Your Group Shots

Couples are also absolutely more than welcome to get in touch with any questions they may have before the big day. There is no such thing as a silly question, and no limit to the amount of emails you can send me! Also feel free to ask me questions that aren't photography related if you need help. I.e. If you're looking for a band then feel free to ask if I know of anyone. I have a host of wedding-related contacts, and am well placed to research on your behalf.

Praise | Kate Fierek - Wedding Photographer

Cat & Dan - Pentillie

"Kate photographed our wedding in May and was absolutely brilliant. We were so happy with the pictures she took and she made us feel completely at ease. I would definitely recommend Kate and her beautiful work. We were able to meet with Kate and discuss a bespoke package to suit our day, as well as going to the venue shortly before our wedding to decide on photo locations. We got married in the Bathing Hut at Pentillie Castle which can be a little dark but Kate did a fantastic job with the lighting and gave us photos we'll treasure forever. Thank you so much Kate!"

Chloe & Adam - Launceston

"We were so lucky to have Kate for our wedding, we both were nervous about having photos taken, I'm not great at having my photo taken at the best of times but I felt really comfortable having Kate there, the organisation was fantastic and we even managed to fit in last minute photos, nothing was ever too much to ask for, and I really appreciated you being on the end of an email when I panicked about the weather :) looking at some of the preview pictures I know the rest are going to be perfect and we are very excited to see the rest, thank you Kate xx"

Zoe & Michael - The Crooked Inn

"Kate covered our wedding a few months ago and we would highly recommend her to anyone. She is very professional, friendly and approachable. Her work is fantastic and we love our photos. Many thanks Kate x"

Rachel and Matthew - The Green, Cornwall

"We received our wedding pictures yesterday and I have to say I am thrilled with them. We got married in September in Cornwall and Kate captured our day perfectly. I was surprised with some brilliant shots she got of our 1 year old daughter who refuses to pose for photos at the minute. She listened to everything we said and we could not be happier with these beautiful images of our day. I feel like I want to get them ALL blown up and displayed all over our house. Thank you so much Kate x"

Rebecca & Ben - Mount Tavy Cottage, Tavistock

"Kate we have just viewed our wedding photos. They are truly beautiful and capture the happiness and magic of our special day perfectly. We can't thank you enough for taking such incredible shots that we can treasure always. Thank you for all the time and effort you put you in we really appreciate everything you did to make these wonderful photos the perfect keepsake. You have an amazing talent! X"

Emma and Tom - Tor Royal, Dartmoor

"Kate photographed our wedding in August and was amazing! She helped us pick the right package, sort out what style we wanted, and organised us into getting the formal photos arranged. Neither of us are very comfortable having our photo taken, but Kate made us both very comfortable and rewarded us with some fantastic shots. Thank you Kate x"

Lorna and Phil - Calstocks Arts - The Old Chapel

"Kate photographed our wedding in October 2014. She was really helpful in the run up and was really understanding that we are not good at being photographed and didn't want the process to take up too much of our day or to have too many obviously posed photos. On the day itself she was really fantastic - friendly, efficient and unobtrusive. We absolutely love our photos and have recently bought LOADS of picture frames so we can hang them all over our house :) Friends and family have been really impressed with them too. Kate was also really helpful in choosing a package that suited us and advising us on how to get the most our images (photo books etc). Lastly, I really think it's fantastic that we got full access to all of our images as part of the package, and haven't had to pay for reprints etc - especially considering how many of them we have had blown up :) If you're getting married in Devon or Cornwall, then I would HIGHLY recommend Kate Fierek."

Melissa and Christopher - Trethorne Golf Club

"Thank you so so much again for photographing our wedding on Saturday. You were brilliant. We cannot wait to see the rest of our pictures. Totally recommended by us. Amazing xxxx"

Carrie and Ben - Lewtrenchard Manor

"Kate you are a fabulous photographer! The photos are absolutely gorgeous and we are so pleased to have memories of our day captured so beautifully. You were absolutely wonderful on the day and we cannot thank you enough!"

Lisa and Adam - The Whitsand Bay Hotel

"Pictures arrived today and are absolutely stunning, Kate has captured all the small details and we've loved reliving our day through them. Thank you so much xx"

Saira & Ben - The Green

"Kate came recommended by our chosen venue. We live in Essex so had to view portfolios online in order to make our choice for photographer. Instantly we liked what we saw! I contacted her via email, she outlined her package that she thought suitable for our needs and we spoke on the phone to make the booking with her. She was friendly and welcoming, and understood immediately the kind of thing we were looking for. Over the coming months, we communicated via email and she contacted me just before our wedding to see how we were getting on. On our wedding day, she arrived exactly at the time we'd agreed, and was a friendly smiley face. She was a calming influence and set about taking some natural shots of us getting ready. At no point did she feel intrusive, and it was as though she were a friend there as a guest. She witnessed our special occasion for us as we had eloped taking only our 2 daughters with us to The Green. Kate helped me into my dress as my daughter had broken her collarbone and couldn't do up the buttons. Nothing was too much trouble and she even took a few photos on our phone so that we could announce our elopement that afternoon. We had planned our reception for the week after we got back, and although this meant our full set of pictures weren't yet ready, she sent over an extensive range of preview edited photos for us to display to our guests on the projector screen. I couldn't recommend Kate more, and we are both so glad she shared our special day with us!"
